Foreword Nigel Bacon, Executive Director, Canada-UK Chamber of Commerce

Canada Chamber Banner

Canada has established itself as an energy superpower with a strong, stable economy, and cost of doing business that is amongst the lowest in the industrialised world.

The UK is Canada's most important commercial partner in Europe being Canada's second- largest goods export market. Total bilateral trade stands at more than CDN$27.1 bn (2010). The UK is also an important source of direct foreign investment, ranking third after the US and the Netherlands.

Canada and the UK have everything to benefit from open trade in the international trading system. As members of NAFTA and the EU, they are working together towards a Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement between Canada and the EU.

For over 90 years the Canada-UK Chamber of Commerce in the UK has been working for the interests of companies from both sides of the Atlantic, whether for exporters, importers, inward or outward investors. Our mission is to be the foremost non-governmental authority on all aspects of two-way trade and investment between the UK, Europe and Canada. We work closely with the Canadian High Commission in the UK, the London offices of the Governments of Alberta, British Columbia, Ontario and Québec, and in Canada, Federal and Provincial Government departments and offices, the British High Commission, British and Canadian Chambers of Commerce and Boards of Trade, municipal authorities and trade associations.

We organise 25-30 business networking events per annum, and provide information and contacts, primarily to our 270+ corporate subscribing members. Many of our members offer expertise and advice on doing business in Canada. Our portfolio of events includes breakfast briefings, workshops, seminars, lunches, dinners and receptions, which enable us to offer business networking and sponsorship opportunities to subscribers and their guests. We refer queries to member companies, make introductions, promote member to member offers, produce various publications for our membership -bi-monthly newsletters, corporate lists (of British companies in Canada, and Canadian companies in the UK), Frequently Asked Question Sheets and a Directory of Members- and have various sector committees, forums and contacts.

It is a great pleasure to contribute to IMA's Doing Business in Canada Guide and we look forward to welcoming you to the Chamber.
